Copper Knobs Can Work with a Lot of Styles

Antique copper and copper knobs are both great for creating a warm feel and look for your space or piece. We have a nice selection with copper knobs varying from a dark weathered copper to bright red coppers. This article features a group of pieces from talented furniture artists that have featured our copper pulls and knobs in a variety of styles and colors.

We will start with a couple projects that feature our most popular copper knob. This piece is a red copper and as you can see by the projects below, it looks great with a wide variety of paint colors.

First up is a great desk makeover from Art is Beauty and features matching cup pulls.

Here we are on a nice pastel hutch meant for outside, doing some potting by the garden from Homeroad!

The same set of copper knobs and cup pulls as above on a beautiful black dresser makeover from Designs by Dee.

And to prove that antique copper and black is a nice mix we have a big hutch makeover from a nice customer that sent in photos of how she used the knobs! Distressing and letting the wood tones come through seems to work very well with red coppers or antique coppers.

Next up we have another nice project in black from a good customer of our Eastern Shore Chic. The cup pulls in this piece match the knobs above exactly  and are an exclusive D. Lawless Hardware product. The knobs on this piece are also a D. Lawless product and were made to be an exact match with the cup pull.

Now I've got a couple applications with navy blues that really make the copper look nice. The first shot is from I Dig Pinterest on a little hallway makeover. The before and after photo really shows how great a small update can look!

The next piece looks really nice as you can see the great way antique copper matches the wood tones and still goes along great with the navy blue paint job. Thank you Neshama Studio!

I'll end this article by showing off a great two tone hutch turned into an organization station from Dawn Nicole. The copper knobs again look great with the wood tones.

Thank you for reading and thank you to all our customers and bloggers that help me write and post these articles by submitting their wonderful work. I am truly grateful!

Furniture Makeovers with Bail Pulls!

One the of the most traditional hardware styles for chest of drawers and dresser are bail pulls. D. Lawless Hardware started as a furniture manufacturing company and one of the first styles we started having produced (eventually leading to our hardware business) was a group of bail pulls that we used on hutches and pie safes. Dave Lawless did antique reproduction furniture so it was imperative to have the historically accurate, traditional bail style hardware for each piece.

Since then we've gone on to sell thousands and thousands to other furniture manufacturers and more recently to people participating in the trend of updating and painting old furniture or restoring antiques furniture. We've been lucky to get photos of much of their work over time, so it makes for a perfect blog post all about bail pulls!

First up we have a couple of pieces using our Hepplewhite style bail pulls on two very nice furniture makeovers from Twig & Thyme Design and Captiva Home. The Hepplewhite style usually features a full oval or circular backplate, protecting the furniture from hands and the swinging bail.

The swan neck bail pull is the simplest and most commonly used style. For this very reason we have a ton of photos of them. These come in an antique English, which is common finish on furniture of this style.  I've got more, but I'll stick with these three lovely pieces from Finding Silver Pennies, In My Own Style, & HalfPast Four!

This next piece is  a new exclusive D. Lawless Hardware product that we just got in around spring of 2019. Decorative roses and beaded center in a verdigris finish. Already we've gotten a couple nice projects shared with us from two furniture professionals! The first from Lotus Theory Designs and the next from Flippin Furniture Design.

To finish up I've got some nice shots of our rosette bail pulls from Creative Moments (one of our top contributors) and a few nice pieces that were provided by generous customers. This style adds a nice elegant touch to a lot of pieces for some reason. Maybe it's the thin, dainty look. They are plenty strong though!

D. Lawless All-Star: Creative Moments in Canada

Lee Ann at Creative Moments has been a great contributor to our website for many years. There are at least ten of her pieces on the website and probably closer to twenty!  As with all the greats, sometimes they get forgotten because everyone just expects them to be there doing great things all the time! So I decided to put together an article of her most recent work since she gets left out of some of the other stuff while I continue to add all the new contributors.

Each photo will link back to the product Lee Ann used and then I'll link to the article in the text so you can see more shots of each piece on her own website. She can also be followed on Facebook of course!

I'll start off with a total stunner sideboard makeover Lee Ann finished a little while back. She used our baroque style hardware with the rose detail!

Most recently Lee Ann shared this great antique tall boy featuring our wood appliques and casters. The full article features detailed how to on the painting and full fix up.

Next up is this lovely little DIY accessories box using our affordable labels. She painted the labels and piece herself to get the perfect finish match with the paint!

This next piece, a grey farmhouse dresser, was sent in a few months ago and features the Augustine cup pulls from Liberty Hardware. The paint and detail on this piece are amazing!

This article features a great painting tutorial as Lee Ann takes you through her process of completing this great French style desk with antique pewter cup pulls.

Here's something I could have used in the last year or so...a lovely navy changing table makeover from an old worn out dresser. Like new!!

Thank you again to Lee Ann for always sharing her wonderful work and for always sharing her process and tips along the way. Her blog is a must follow and I am so grateful to have worked with her over the years. Check out her main site before you forget!

D. Lawless Friends Projects: Final Four Edition

I am a University of Kentucky fan as I grew up in the Tri-State area getting all their games on TV, but this year my alma mater Loyola University has miraculously made it to the Final Four!

I was trying to think of things as unlikely as this but nothing satisfies. They even came to Peoria early this year and got beat by Bradley! Ha! Yet here they are. I remember passing the single basketball trophy while on campus showing off their 1963 NCAA title and thinking they would NEVER add to the display. So fingers crossed, go Ramblers!!

Now, onto people that perform at a high level a bit more consistently than the Ramblers...

First up is Amy at Saved by A.Bell. She used these vintage style bail pulls on a nice dresser makeover. I am a fan of contrast between the hardware and where it's mounted, so I think this looks very nice. I also love her staging area with the brick wall!

D. Lawless Hardware Friends Projects: 50 Degrees & Snowing Edition

So many group members have graciously been submitting photography that I am getting behind. That's a good thing though! The next few posts will probably be short and to the point so that I can get everyone featured and get caught back up.

So assuming everyone isn't buried in snow and can read this. I'll get started!

First up is a real life friend of mine (I met her at the General Finishes Expo) Val at Love My DIY Home! Val used matching hardware from Liberty in a nice Venetian Bronze finish and this a good example of a perfect hardware match. The bronze pulls really go perfectly with the tones of the dresser!

D. Lawless Partners: Spring Equinox Edition

Spring is here! Depending on where you are north to south it may already be Spring! What's that? You thought it was Spring when they told you it was? And it is the same for everyone? No way! The Spring equinox signaling the beginning of Spring actually happens at a different time for everyone depending on how far north or south they live. So Spring is here for some, and other have to wait a LITTLE longer.

What you don't have to wait for is beautiful projects featuring D. Lawless Hardware! This week we have a ton of beauties!

Kicking us off is Designs by Dee where Denise used our solid brass restoration cup pulls and matching drop pulls on this beautiful china cabinet. I probably say it every time I see it, but brass and blue is one of my favorite looks and this piece is a great example of why. I also really love how the wood trim and detail was left stained. A real beauty!  Here are the cup pulls.

D. Lawless Friends & Partner Projects: March Madness Edition

I'm not huge into sports anymore, but my favorite event of the year is the NCAA basketball tourney! I love how it's unpredictable and anyone can win. I'm normally a University of Kentucky fan as I grew up in the IL, KY, IN tri-state corner and their games were always on TV more than even the University of IL games. But this year MY LOYOLA RAMBLERS made the tourney! Loyola University Chicago is the only team from IL to ever win the NCAA title and they are going for it again! I won't hold my breath though...they are a bit of an underdog let's just say...

Okay, enough of my RAMBLING! :) That was corny...seriously here are some mad awesome projects from the DLH Friends group!

First up is this lovely two piece bedroom set from E Jay Vintage Modern! The cup pulls are actually our "ready to fire" ceramic pulls from our DIY section, but they look great in their plain Jane form on the little dresser. As usual, great staging and photography as well!

D. Lawless Friends Projects: Go Away Winter Edition

Good day to everyone! The time change magically has given us more time! Oh wait, it didn't, but it feels like it? In my opinion we need to ditch daylight savings time. It's ridiculous and is linked to a greater incidence of heart attack!!  But this is a hardware blog so I'll shut up about that. Just thought it was interesting.

But if daylight savings doesn't technically brighten our day, then we can still rely on my partners and customers to wow us with beautiful furniture design and updates each week!

First up I'll show off this nice before and after collage from Mara at Vintage & Retail Therapy. This post was the top post in the month of February in our Facebook group and Mara won a $25 gift card to D. Lawless for being the top contributor!

Next up, Fallon at Market House Restorations sent in these amazing photos of our milk glass depression knobs! The little cabinet looks great and her staging skills are off the chart! The matching milk glass vases look amazing!

Lisa at RE-Loved Treasures shared this beautifully updated Victorian Eastlake piece and used some bail pulls from our restoration section! I'm a big fan of mixing wood stain and paint so I think this one looks just great

Here we have several nice photos from Jane at Vintage Transformation Studio on a dark dresser makeover that features some of Liberty Hardware's pineapple rigid bail pulls. Great choice of hardware for a big sturdy dresser like this!

On this lovely dresser makeover Jen at Wildflower Restorations took advantage of our free knobs section for DLH Friends members and it worked out perfectly for both of us! I got nice pictures of the knobs and she saved a little bit on her costs!

And finally we have Margy from the Friends group. Margy operates MKP Crafties, doing all sorts of things besides furniture. I love the great painted detail on the top and front drawers! Looks great and really shows off our pink acrylic knobs well!

D. Lawless Friends & Partners: Blue Moon Edition!

This morning as I write the blue moon is in the sky but it's just on the horizon and I'll have to wait til tonight to see the full thing. Hopefully the clouds are gone! I love astrologically theming my posts. Not enough people look up in the sky. Everyone looks down and at screens and forgets the wonders above.

Today I have a lot of projects so nice you could say they don't come around more than once in a blue moon! But lucky for me I get them weekly! :)

I'll start off today with Allison from Allee Cat Designs with this nice little dresser that features a couple of our appliques for some added detail. I think it's the perfect touch. They really add to the piece and go great with the wide drawers!

Next is Stacey from Renewed Spirit Home. I've had the pleasure of featuring a lot of Stacey's work in the past and this piece is another beauty! Stacey used the D. Lawless Depression Glass Collection in milk white and added them to this big red dresser. Very nice and a great touch matching the knob and pull ferrules to the brass hinges!

And now a beautiful project from first time contributor Maria! Maria runs the business and page Chalk Paint Charm and used our baroque style cup pulls on this distressed dresser and the result is fantastic!! So happy to have Maria in the group!

And now another long time contributor to the group and the website! Heike from Serendipity Designs has sent in many gorgeous projects in the past and this one is no different. Perfect hardware choice going with the ring pulls and the matching chair is the icing on the cake!

And last but not least, Jen of Wildflower Restorations took advantage of a free hardware offering a few weeks back and sent in this cute dresser featuring sage ceramic knobs. The knobs go perfectly with the print! And the owl on top is a nice staging touch! Thank you Jen!

That's all for today! There is still time to see the big blue moon and if you are in the right place there is a full lunar eclipse tonight. Thank to the contributors and to the readers!
